First Draft completed!

Just finished writing the first draft of my modern-fantasy novel (tentatively titled “The Grass-Haired Girl”) set in the same Griefborn Universe as my short story “How the Mourning Willow Came to Saunderbir”.

I’d once read, way back when I started writing, that you have to write at least 100,000 words before you’re ever ready to even begin writing seriously. Back then, I was young and stupid and belligerent (funny how those three often go together) so I actively dismissed the idea. I was ready NOW dammit! I really wasn’t. Looking back on the first three novels I’ve written, I can say without shame or embarrassment that they were absolute and utter garbage. Even so, they were still useful practice.

I actually started this novel sometime around ten years ago or so, with lots of false starts and stops and with letting life get in the way through multiple moves and jobs. But now I’ve finished the first draft and I’m super excited about it and the series it begins.

Stay tuned for more news!
